We have implemented DMCplus/RTOpt with Mitsubishi at Mizushima, and DMCplus only at Yokkaichi to control the steam and power utilities at these major chemical production facilities in Japan.
These are providing significant benefits, managing the distribution of the steam and power loads, managing the import/export of power and making MCC very happy. They presented on this work at The AspenTech ACO User Group in 1998 and at the more recent AspenWorld 2000.
Of course these DMCplus applications are for the 'continuous operation'. The operators can bring equipment on, or take it offline manually; they just need to turn a subcontroller on/off to take that equipment in/out of the problem.
AspenTech have also done projects using some of the other technologies, for example at AspenWorld 2000 Electrabel (a major European power utility) presented their project which used Aspen Custom Modeller and a mixed integer optimization in order to make the equipment on/off decisions, in addition to operator advice on operating targets.
These solutions (advisory and on-line optimization + dynamic control) will be combined in our 'Plantelligence for Utilities'.
I hope this is useful.
